miracles in PORTMORE
GREETINGS FROM PORTMORE!!
Portmore is:
1. incredible
2. the best
3. so so so so so hot
4. infested with mosquitoes
5. wonderful
6. my favorite place on the planet
I can't even tell you what an incredible place this is and how excited I am to be here. Portmore is a city next to Kingston that is right by the ocean (we drive next to it every day and can see it from our apartment) and is kind of a nicer area than a lot of the island. It's hot hot hot but stacked back to back with darling, bright colored houses and good hardworking people. There's also a WARD here (I'm dying of excitement) and the people in it are some of my favorite people ever already. I know I'm going to love these next 6 months here in Portmore!!
One of the things that makes Portmore so great is my darling companion Sister Clyde. She is a professional ballerina from Tucson Arizona and literally one of the kindest and most consecrated missionaries I've ever met. I've learned so much from her already and we are working hard hard hard!
We have seen some crazy miracles this week as we have decided to work towards some goals and put everything we have into the work. And I mean EVERYTHING. (consecration is one of our favorite topics haha). The coolest miracle ever happened on Saturday morning as we decided to go "faith finding," which is basically like praying really hard and letting the spirit guide you to a soul that needs to hear the gospel. We talked to a couple people and weren't really feeling like that's where we needed to be, but finally ended up on this random street next to the ocean and were like yes, that's the house we need to be at! A lady named Jacqueline answered the door and we started talking to her with our basic approach, but we felt prompted to ask her some questions that had to do with the plan of salvation. It was incredible. She totally opened up and it was one of those missionary moments where they are totally searching and have all the questions that can be exactly answered by the plan of salvation. CRAZY. We gave her a pamphlet and set a return appointment and walked away literally dancing. It was amazing!! But later, we went to call her and her number came up in the phone as a less active's number...awkward (people don't always bring up that they are affiliated with the church in the first contact. you gotta get it out of them haha). But due to some crazy and miraculously timed circumstances, we met a man in our ward that taught Jacqueline's daughter, who was the less active and apparently lending Jacqueline her phone. We had a return appointment with her and she said her daughter had met with missionaries before but didn't know how much she learned. Crazy man. Jacqueline is so ready for the gospel and we are very excited for her!!! Get ready for some awesome miracles from Portmore!!!
Lots of love from the Caribbean (which I have to look at every day but can't go near #willpower)
