Happy Halloween! Or not....

Another exhausting/wonderful/hot/exciting week in Portmore! #missionlife

Some exciting things or just totally random thoughts from this week:

1. I think it's important to note that I ate cow skin and chicken foot soup and survived. I also had pig tail and that was exciting. (It's true when they say your stomach gets set apart too)
2. We had a cute Jamaican sister stay with us for a couple days before we took her to the airport to go to the Provo MTC and then to her mission in Cape Verde! That was the closest I'll ever get to training probably haha. She was darling though and it was fun to trio. The more sisters the merrier!
3. There are butterflies everywhere here. It makes me happy :)
4. Just about everything we do here as missionaries is for the end goal of having a temple on the island someday. People have to sacrifice so much to fly to either Panama or the Dominican Republic and there are faithful members that have never been able to go to the temple. It absolutely breaks my heart, but makes me work harder so that one day when they announce a temple in Kingston I can cry my eyes out with joy!! There was even one couple that had been waiting for the island wide temple trip to get married, and it was pushed back because of the hurricane. They got married civilly, and due to legal complexities they now have to wait a whole year to be sealed. This is just one example of sacrifice that the people here have to go through because there's not a temple.
5. First trade-off with my lovely Sister Meli in Maypen. I got to ride in a Jamaican taxi (that's an experience you can't really explain over email), and be with one of the cutest sisters all day! Lucky me! (going to Kingston this week and SO STOKED)
6. You know that scene in Other Side of Heaven where he is walking with his companion while smacking mosquitoes, then just goes crazy running and hitting himself? Me. Every day.
7. We have an awesome investigator named Devonte that we're teaching right now. He's in a part member family and so ready to be baptized! He really knows his stuff, too- he's progressing way more than anyone else we're teaching. Oh, and he's 11.
8. I think I have a staple food every transfer and for now it's toast with guava jam. Is that a thing in America? Not sure, but it's super good. (I think my ability to differentiate between the US and here is leaving me....)
9. Jamaicans are afraid of rain, the dark, and duppys (ghosts). Needless to say, Halloween is not celebrated here. Never fear, Sister Clyde and I are still partying as much as we can while still being consecrated, and dressed up as each other (you can't really get more wild than that on the mission haha). Pictures coming next week!

Love you all, enjoy the cold hahahaha
