WAGWAN FROM JAMAICA AYYYY

Wow hi hello like where do I start. Hmm maybe with the fact that I live in Jamaica now??? Hahahaha don't worry, if you can't believe it, then join the club (not an actual club though haha)

Basically what happened was that last Wednesday, President Smith called me and was like hey your visa is here! And by the way you are leaving in five days! Needless to say, I was just a little bit in shock haha. I was (and still am) incredibly sad to leave New York and I treasure with all my heart the time I spent there. I am so grateful for the people I taught, the fantastic missionaries I served with, and the place I was in. Who knew that I'd ever have a special place in my heart for the Bronx?! (not me!)

Monday I said goodbye (mostly just like cried my eyes out for a couple hours) and then missed my flight haha and got to hang out in the JFK airport for about 7 hours (weirdest 7 hours of my lifeeee), then got into Jamaica sometime around 2 or 3 in the morning...I can't remember haha. I spent the night in the mission home and had my last AC and hot shower for a while! (which I'm kind of missing now...we don't have any water in our apartment at the current moment hahaha) I will tell you, it's quite the transition going from one of the biggest cities in the world to a tiny island in less than a couple hours!

Now I'm in a cute lil place in the middle of Jamaica called Hopeton (it's basically Mandeville if you're looking at a map) that is nice and cool (actually I am straight up freezing most of the time- Sis Fawson always laughs at me when I have to deck out in my hoodie and pants for studies) and also looks more like the Lord of the Rings than what I thought a little island would look like. The people here are wonderful and I'm so grateful for our truck to haul us around our area. It's so fun to get to know people and actually talk with everyone for once (it's 100% impossible to do that in NY, making us feel like a bunch of sack missionaries haha). My comp is sweet Sister Fawson from Grantsville, UT. I love how much she loves the people here!

The food is good and the people are wonderful, so basically I have no complaints here haha! I am excited to continue in my missionary service and represent the Lord. Man, missionary work is the best.

Just to clear up some stereotypes:
Everyone does say "ya mon"
They allll smoke weed ("brain food is good for you man!")
Not everyone has dreads
English is not a thing here (patois (slang language here) is slowly coming....we'll get there someday hahaha. Soon come!)
Usain Bolt is still the best!! (don't worry we've heard everyyyyything that's been going on with the Olympics so far hahahha it's the worst!!!)

Well I am a sack missionary and didn't think of a spiritual thought this week....don't worry there will be one next week!! So sorry!! Have a wonderful week!

ora et labora,
Sister Swindle

Here's pics of our truck and the view and my first bit of famous Jamaican jerk chicken (so good man) and our cute lil "apartment" that we live in (mom I already know you would adore it!!)
